New Season, New Things to Blog About

First off, I want to apologize to anyone who was following my blog around the new year. I went to Winter Park, Colorado for a family vaction then we came home to family complications which completly threw me off my blogging, and I simply haven't been able to find the time to get it together until now.

Start of Track 2011

As hopefully most high school track athletes, I am really looking forward to this track season. I think some great things can happen, especially with the buildup I've put in which I will get to later. Currently, my PRs include 9:54.2 for 3200m, a 4:42.7 for 1600m, and a 2:15.14 for 800m. Just recently, I dropped by 200m PR down from 32sec to 30.44 alone on a local indoor track, so there's no doubt that great improvement on these times is in the mix. That second and a half improvement in my 200m PR is simply from two things I've done this winter. First, I've really been hitting the weights harder and more consistantly than I have in any other year. And secondly, if you haven't seen "Distance Training: The Michigan Way", the coach suggests doing 150m (50-50-50s) buildups to get used to your arms taking you faster. It'll be interesting how that helps my other events. But, I'm still not satisfied where my strength is for the agressive goals I have set for myself, so I have decided that, since there is no IHSA Indoor State Meet, to opt out of those three meets that I would have run, and focus on improving my footspeed and my strength.

Getting in the miles I need has just today, gotten a ton easier than it has ever been simply for one reason. It was 54 degrees today in the great state of Illinois. Just two weeks ago I had 3 days off (my school NEVER cancels school) because we were smashed by a blizzard. It has taken about a week of temperatures around or above freezing for the snow to melt a substantial amount, and finally today I was able to run through a local park, while jumping around puddles, or running straight through still knee deep snow difts.

I can not make any promises of how often I'll blog. I will try to blog weekly, give or take a few days. If anyone has any requests about a blog topic, I am very open to them, so please comment below or send me a message.

Happy Training.
